Eröffnung des temporären Klimagartens
OpenCultures lädt an den Campus-Nord ein
Eröffnung · May 18, 2026 · Braunschweig

The city of Braunschweig will host Lower Saxony Day from 12 to 14 June 2026. This regional festival brings together stakeholders from the worlds of culture, society, business and science, and showcases Lower Saxony’s diversity across a range of themed zones.
The Lower Saxony Climate Research Centre (ZKfN), together with its Climate Future Labs, will be providing insights into current research on climate protection and climate adaptation in the tent of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK).
On a large map of Lower Saxony, visitors can pinpoint their own observations, questions and suggestions regarding climate impacts – supported by information cards on topics such as forests, cities and biodiversity. A quiz booklet complements the offering.
The ZKfN will be present throughout the event; the Climate Future Labs will take turns with other programme items. This illustrates how research in Lower Saxony helps to better prepare forests, cities and habitats for climate change – in a practical, interactive way and through direct dialogue with scientists.
Friday, 12 June 2026 | 4.00–8.00 pm FoResLab ‘Experience the multifunctionality of forests’: An app shows what forests do and how they might develop in the future. The programme also covers leaf temperatures as an indicator of the condition and function of forests, drone measurements and a tree-ring challenge.
Saturday, 13 June 2026 | 10:00–15:00 Urban Climate Future Lab (UCFL) In a playful digital environment set in Braunschweig, visitors use tablets to develop measures to improve the urban climate. The application immediately shows the effects of their decisions and promotes a clear understanding of urban climate adaptation.
Saturday, 13 June 2026 | 3.00 pm–8.00 pm UMEX-HOPE ‘Tiger mosquitoes in Lower Saxony – already a reality?’ How can you recognise them? How are they spreading? And what are the consequences for people, animals and the environment?
Sunday, 14 June 2026 | 11:00–15:00 DIVERSA How are climate change-related disturbances in forests perceived? 360° images of various forest conditions and audio recordings of bird songs offer new perspectives on changes in the forest ecosystem.
The stand is designed to be interactive and invites visitors to actively engage with questions surrounding climate change, adaptation strategies and sustainable development.
