On 20 February 2025, the first Werkstatt der Mutigen for the Braunschweig region took place in the DenkRaum Braunschweig. Around 60 politicians and shapers from civil society, business, science and administration took part in the format and developed solutions for regional challenges. The aim of the event format was so-called matchmaking. This enabled participants who want to tackle specific challenges to network with other participants who can contribute expertise or ideas to the solution. The aim is to initiate network building and regional change. The workshop for the Braunschweig region was organised by a team from DenkRaum Braunschweig, Heimvorteil e.V., TU Braunschweig/ Wirtschaftsinformatik – Service-Informationssysteme and the Zentrum Klimaforschung Niedersachsen.

What is possible if we act together? This question was explored by around 60 participants from civil society, politics, business, science and administration at the first workshop for the Braunschweig region on 20 February. In the Denkraum Braunschweig, they identified regional challenges and sought allies to tackle them.

In the first phase, the participants first introduced themselves at various project stands and then discussed regional problems and needs that they perceive from their personal perspective. ‘Lack of time to volunteer alongside work and family’, ‘missing structures’ and ‘access to project financing’ were some of the keywords mentioned as challenges. The second phase was the so-called matchmaking. In numerous discussions, the participants networked with each other on the challenges and thus brought ideas and solutions to each other. The aim of the event is for the networks that have been created in this way to continue working together on the solutions, thus bringing about long-term changes in the region.

On behalf of the entire organising team, Katharina Zickwolf drew a very positive conclusion about the workshop of the brave for the Braunschweig region: ‘We are very pleased that so many shapers have come together here and networked. The positive working atmosphere and the many lively discussions are a sign of a successful event. We hope that the workshop is the starting point for further collaboration between the participants and that the networks that have been created will actually develop solutions to their respective challenges.'

In numerous conversations, the participants networked with each other and tried to bring together ideas and solutions in so-called ‘matches’.
