Katharina Zickwolf – Managing Director at the Lower Saxony Center for Climate Research

My tasks at the ZKfN:

My tasks at the ZKfN are highly diverse. As managing director, I am responsible for internal processes such as team organisation and budget, but also for the long-term direction of the center. This is of course done in collaboration with the MWK, the committees and my colleagues. In addition, I work closely with those involved in the Climate Future Labs, develop new projects for the center and network with people from science, society and other fields. My work allows me to gain many exciting insights into different disciplines and fields of work, to work creatively and at the same time to do something that I find meaningful.

How I came to the ZKfN:

I have been working in the field of (digital) teaching and learning development for a long time, and in the course of this, I have become increasingly involved in education for sustainable development at universities. This enabled me to participate in the founding of the Green Office at TU Braunschweig. My research focuses on the integration of sustainability-related aspects into curricula and the barriers and drivers of sustainability transformation at universities. The step to the ZKfN was thus an obvious one, and I am very pleased to be able to shape this exciting project as managing director.

My climate resolutions:

I hope that we as a society will be able to develop positive visions for the future and solutions so that we do not lose ourselves in resignation or even fear. In doing so, I think it is important to closely link the needs of people with those of nature and the environment. I hope for the courage to implement new ideas, but also for an exchange between people to discuss the upcoming changes and to be able to include many opinions.
